Is Kings Cross safe?

With all the rubbish flowing about the dangers of the Cross, I though it would be good to go to the NSW Bureau of Crime Statitistics to see what is really happening in the cross.
We find that the number of assults in the Sydney Local Area (which Kings Cross is a part of) has decreased by around 3% since 2002. However, the population of the area has increased by 25% over the same period according to the ABS.
Which leads to the following chart.

So while it is a tragedy that a young man has died in the cross, we are still safer there today than 10 years ago.
Ignore the postering of Clover and Keating as they are using the poor kid's death to score political points.
